Arizmendi opening on Valencia!
News to all you fellow San Francisco-dwellers: Arizmendi Bakery is opening on Valencia (Valencia and 24th, to be exact)! This is particularly exciting to me as it is down the street from where I live, thus putting me miles closer to one of the more delicious bakeries and eateries in the Bay Area. Arizmendi is a worker-owned bakery cooperative that has amazing breads, cookies, and a daily pizza with flavors like, “roasted kabocha squash, red onions, goat gouda cheese, rosemary oil, p&p” (today’s flavor). They first opened in the East Bay in 1997 and migrated to San Francisco a little later with a shop in the Inner Sunset, but to be in the Mission! So close to where I live! I walked past their sign the other day and my little heart leapt for joy, and maybe also out of fear for what will happen to my wallet and waistline. But that is minor, really. Now if only they would open SOONER. Right now, doors are scheduled to open in Fall/Winter 2010. Sigh.
