Thanks so much for the comment! I love that you have an annual Redwall Feast -- I might need to do the same, what a great idea! Happy eating :)

OK, I know you wrote this post over a year ago, but I was just so excited to read it and see your pictures and recipe for Deeper'n'Ever Pie. I have a Redwall Feast each fall at my home filled with foods described in and inspired by the books. Some are my own creations, such as my recipes for Deeper'n'Ever Pie and Shrimp'n'Hotroot Soup, but other have been gleaned from Redwall lovers all over the Internet. I love the idea to use beets as a garnish, and may steal that idea because my husband doesn't like beets, and I just can't eat the purple leftovers, for all my love of beets.

I learned today that he's dead. Its a very sad event. I think this is a very special thing you did. I think he would be pleased to see this. He was a talented author and I think the only one who's made my mouth water. Though my favorite parts of his books were his poetry. Probably the most original series I've ever read.

This almost brought me to tears. The Redwall books are so vivid! Excitement mixed with friendship. Heartache with happiness. There are so many emotions flowing through his writing that it takes you to that far off place of Mossflower to join the Redwall beasts at a feast or to join the Long Patrol Hares led by their badger lord on a march to defeat the vermin horde. All I can say is a magical man has left us and will always be remembered by us, his loyal readers.

aw stepho. an excellent post. the last line is touching. i love the reference to the woods hole library. also i like how you intersperse text with images, instead of grouping each together separately. this is reminding me of my desire to get a cauldron and cook a meal outdoors like they do in a game of thrones, another fantasy novel with excellent food descriptions. what say you to this?! a little localspoon in the local forest?
